Coach/Volunteer Requirements
NORTHSIDE & DISTRICT MINOR HOCKEY
2026–2027 Volunteer Requirements
All team volunteers must meet the applicable Hockey Nova Scotia and Hockey Canada requirements for their position.
CERTIFICATION DEADLINE — DECEMBER 1, 2026
All required certifications must be completed and properly recorded in the volunteer’s Hockey Canada profile by December 1, 2026.
Failure to complete the required certifications by the December 1, 2026 deadline will result in non-participation with the team until all required certifications have been obtained.
Please Note: Volunteer certification compliance is enforced by the Hockey Nova Scotia Certification Coordinator. Northside Minor Hockey will be notified when a volunteer is non-compliant with the required certifications.
ALL TEAM VOLUNTEERS
• Current Criminal Record Check (CRC)
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
• The Shift Forward
COACHING CERTIFICATION
U7 & U9
• Head Coach — Coach 1
• Assistant Coaches — Coach 1
U11
• Head Coach — Coach 2
• Assistant Coaches — Coach 2
U13
• Head Coach — Coach 2
• Assistant Coaches — Coach 2
U15
• AA Head Coach — Development 1
• AA Assistant Coaches — Coach 2
• A, B & C Head and Assistant Coaches — Coach 2
U18
• AA Head Coach — Development 1
• AA Assistant Coaches — Coach 2
• A, B & C Head and Assistant Coaches — Coach 2
All Head and Assistant Coaches must also have:
• Hockey Canada Safety
• The Shift Forward
• Current CRC/VSC
TEAM MANAGERS
• Hockey Canada Safety
• The Shift Forward
• Current CRC/VSC
FIRST AID / CPR / AED
Each team must have at least one approved bench staff member — Head Coach or Assistant Coach — who holds:
• Emergency First Aid
• CPR Level C
• AED certification
U7 & U9 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
At least one approved on-ice team volunteer must have:
• Hockey Canada Safety
• Emergency First Aid
• CPR Level C
• AED certification
The qualified volunteer must be on the ice at all times.
